Bones of the story
So today we had a storytelling workshop with Lucy. She began with a vocal presentation of a mythological story, rich in detail and with fascinating twists and turns, which took about ten minutes. She then asked each of us to retell the story in five minutes to forty-five seconds. I was already feeling a bit overwhelmed at this step, as the story was the most important part of the animation for me, the heart of it. As we cut every detail and every plot point, the piece was slowly losing its colour. But I soon realised why it was important to cut back. Because we want to get to the backbone of the story, the bones of the story. When we create animation, we tend to express ourselves with all sorts of complex emotions, we are building communication with the audience, and this act can make us lose sight of what the point is, and what the backbone is. We need to go beyond the central bone of the story before we can use it as a basis to build exactly another world.
Archetypes-question
Archetypes are universal symbols, patterns, and themes that are present in various cultures, myths, and stories. They are recurring motifs that represent different aspects of human behaviour, personality, and consciousness. Archetypes are also present in animation and are used to create compelling and relatable characters.

Overall. today I learned two new concepts which I think are important and need to be considered while we are composing our own animation. The Bones of the story need to be established at the first stage to make sure the animation is focused and not too complicated. And the Archetype is something that I think if I include in my animation, I can consider about the relationship between all the characters e.g. the devil and the child. The connection between them might able to make an interesting sparkle.
