During the life drawing session, different body postures were depicted and followed a general procedure of drawing a body with life drawing the shoulder first, followed by the hips of the body. There are also 8 important parts that need to be focused on when drawing a body, including the head, neck, two arms, rib cage, legs and palms. Drawing different body structures in various age group with distinct postures have greatly improved my understanding of human bodies and their movements, which will be beneficial for my future animation studies.
We had three different types of body shapes throughout the 3 weeks (muscular/normal/old man with a belly).
The 1-3 minute sessions are interesting as usual, since we have some more time, it allows me to draw the same poses a few more times by trying out different starting methods, e.g. starting with beans or starting with shoulder and hips. There is no better way of drawing but I do prefer the beans because it allows me to think about the human in two separate parts and attach the other details. The 30 seconds session is challenging as well, and I can never get used to it. Quickly using beans to present and model shapes instead of lines and figures. In this session, Vanessa told me that when we are drawing, we should always use a smooth line to present the shape of arms and legs but not divided them into two seperate parts like lotus root. The exact shape of our body limbs should be drawn afterwards when we start to refine the details.
